Mike Eskridge, 49, the popular 11-year sports editor of the Burleson Star, died at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday at Community Hospice of Texas in Burleson. Eskridge had been transferred there from Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth on Tuesday. He entered Harris Feb. 20, after suffering a stoke at his home in Alvarado. Eskridge was hospitalized after he was found unresponsive in his home by sheriff's deputies. Co-workers became concerned after Eskridge failed to show at work and called Sheriff Bob Alford. Eskridge was a graduate of Arlington Bowie High School and the University of Texas at Arlington. He began writing for the Burleson Star on March 29, 2001. A memorial fund has been established to help young people affected by lupus in honor of Michael Ray Eskridge. In lieu of flowers send donations to the Lupus Foundation of America at www.lupus-northtexas.org. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, arrangements by Moore Funeral Home, 4216 S. Bowen Rd. in Arlington.
