Two men who attempted to steal a washer and dryer from an Alvarado residence have been arrested.
In the wee hours Friday, deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office arrested Artavius Simone Rogers, 28, of Cleburne and Lance Ray Grover, 31, also of Cleburne for Burglary of Habitation in the 6000 block of FM 2415 in Alvarado, Sheriff Bob Alford said.
The indident began at 12:36 a.m. when homeowner, who had been away from home, retuned and observed Rogers and Grover exiting a family member's mobile home on the property, Alford said.
"The suspects told the homeowner they had permission to be in the residence," Alford said.
However, the homeowner knew their statement was false because he was currently in care of the residence for the family member, Alford said.
Deputies arrived and took Rogers into custody, but Grover fled the scene on foot. During the course of the investigation, Rogers admitted to entering the property without permission with the intent to remove the washer and dryer from the residence, Alford said.
About two hours after the incident started, Grover was located by sheriff's deputies and taken into custody.
Rogers was taken to the Johnson County Law Enforcement Center and charged with Burglary of Habitation, a Class 2 felony with a $15,000 bond. He met bond and was released.
Grover was also taken to the JCLEC and charged Burglary of Habitation with a $15,000 bond,
