Two straight trips to the state semifinals and a state championship game appearance last year have put the spotlight on the Alvarado football program and landed the Indians a place in the inaugural Dale Hansen Football Classic.
Alvarado will play Mexia in the final of three weekend games in Waxahachie at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
“We are looking forward to playing Mexia in this inaugural event,” Alvarado head coach Jeff Dixon said. “Playing on a Saturday evening should draw a good crowd, and a playoff atmosphere should help us down the road.”
The Dale Hansen Football Classic, a joint effort by Waxahachie ISD, the City of Waxahachie and the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, will also feature a Friday night game between Italy and Malakoff and a Saturday afternoon game between Thrall and Florence.
Along with the games, 12 students will be recognized during the event. A boy and girl from each school participating will be awarded scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each that will be presented during a pre-game ceremony.
“While the Dale Hansen Football Classic is designed to showcase athleticism, it will also promote academics as one boy and one girls from the senior class in each of the high schools represented will be awarded a scholarship based on their academic standing, moral courage and leadership skills,” said Dr. Nicole Mansell, Dale Hansen Football Classic Coordinator. “We
believe the academic scholarship program to be a key part of the classic as higher education is extremely important and students from across the state of Texas deserve the chance to pursue an education at the collegiate level.”
Pre-sale tickets will be on sale August 15 – September 6. Tickets are $7 pre-sale and $10 on game day, which includes both Saturday games. A three-day weekend pass is also available for $10 and includes all three games.
