Alvarado -- Carolyn Girdwood Gattis, 73, died at her home in the arms of her daughters on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Services were 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Alvarado. A memorial reception for family and friends took place immediately following the service, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Interment was 10:30 a.m. Monday in D/FW National Cemetery in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Women at the First United Methodist Church and/or Helping Hands for Jesus, both of Alvarado. Carolyn was a native of Fort Worth and a graduate of Paschal High School. She met fellow student and neighbor Jack Gattis and the two were married in Fort Worth on May 7, 1955. She showed her devotion to her church and church family by being an active servant of Christ. Carolyn enjoyed her large family and her many friends. She taught Bible studies, served as a member/officer of the United Methodist Women, served on committees, and was a delegate for the FUMC Annual Conference for many years. She especially enjoyed Bible Study Fellowship as a student and leader. Her community involvement included the Parent Teacher Organization, Clio Club, Garden Club, Meals on Wheels of Alvarado and election judge of Johnson County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Oneita Girdwood and brother-in-law, Charles Schotta. Survivors include husband, Jack Gattis; daughters, Carla Peikoff and husband, Nick, Kay Campbell, Lori Skjong-Nilsen and husband, Stig; granddaughters, Abby Walraven and husband, Casey, Brooke Rich and husband, Joshua; grandsons, Josh Reynolds, Will Campbell, Chase Campbell, Henri Skjong-Nilsen and Jack Skjong-Nilsen; great-grandsons, Noah, Evan and Cohen; and sister-in-law, Sarita Schotta.
