| Soccer Roundup: Lady Indians vying for playoff berth (Posted 3/4/2010 11:17 am) BY RICKY MOORE mooresports@thestargroup.com Despite falling twice in District 15-4A girls soccer play, Alvarado’s Lady Indians hold their playoff destiny in their hands. With three matches remaining in 15-4A action, the Lady Indians could almost put themselves in the playoffs with a pair of wins. “Right now, Cleburne needs to upset Joshua or Granbury to keep us out of the playoffs,” Alvarado coach Billy Grey said. Alvarado (6-6-1, 3-5-1) played at Venus Tuesay in a match that ended after press time and hosts Hillsboro Friday. The Lady Indians finished district play hosting Crowley Tuesday. The Lady Indians lost to Granbury 2-0 Feb 25 and fell to Cleburne 1-0 Friday night. “We expected to do a little better, especially after beating Joshua,” Grey said. “We played really well and dominated the entire game against Cleburne. They scored and we didn’t.” Alvarado missed a penalty kick, had a goal nullified by an offside call and hit the post multiple times, Grey added. Boys split a pair Alvarado’s boys soccer team headed down the stretch in District 15-4A with a win and a loss. The Indians fell to Cleburne 10-0 Feb. 25 and downed Cleburne 1-0 on Friday. Alvarado played Tuesday at Venus in a match that ended after press time. The Indians hosts Hillsboro Friday and play at Crowley Tuesday to end the regular season. |
