An arrest was made Friday in the shooting death of Rudofo “Rudy” Sanchez, 43, of Alvarado. Sanchez was shot at his rented residence in the 100 block of Cherokee Street, three blocks north of Alvarado Junior High School.

The shooting occurred some time in the late evening hours on Sunday, Jan, 31.

Joel Anderson, 28, notified Alvarado Police Sanchez had been shot and Sanchez was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 in the intensive care unit.

Anderson and Sanchez had been watching television at Sanchez’s house.

Anderson was arrested Friday in Midlothian as a suspect in the murder and is currently in the Johnson County Jail.

“When the investigation first began the evidence in the case did not match Mr. Anderson’s account of what happened,” Alvarado Police Department Chief Josh Vincent reported. “Upon further investigation it was discovered that Mr. Anderson and Mr. Sanchez had been watching football and after the game Mr. Anderson shot Mr. Sanchez with a .22 caliber revolver for unknown reasons.”
