| Journalism Scholarships (Posted 2/3/2010 03:20 pm) The North and East Texas Press Association will award two $1,500 journalism scholarships to students this spring. The intent of the scholarships is to encourage students to peruse excellence in reporting, writing, editing or photography. Alvarado Star editor Christopher Amos said the scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors and current college students. The Alvarado Star is a member of the North and East Texas Press Association. "One of my daughters studied writing in college and receive the NETPA scholarship twice," Amos said. "You can apply to receive the scholarship multiple times as long as you are a full time student and are taking a class that pertains to journalism." Applications must be postmarked by Friday, March 12. Applications are available from the Alvarado Star by calling 817-295-0486. The winners will be recognized at the annual NETPA convention to be held in McKenney April 8. The application process includes a form and an essay. The NETPA began awarding scholarships in 1999. |
