Relay for Life (Posted 2/2/2010 01:30 pm)
The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the Relay For Life of Johnson County.

The Relay is the American Cancer Society’s national overnight fundraising activity. Teams of eight to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation. The eighth annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Johnson County will be June 4 at Cleburne High School Track in Cleburne. The event normally includes food, music and interacting with other cancer cure supporters.

Relay board member Mary Ann Wheatley said the event is like a fun family reunion for some teams.

“Relay For Life unites friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools and churches— people from all walks of life,” she said. “Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer.”

Relay chairperson Melissa Peet said the commodity among team members and with other teams is what makes the event fun.

“The event raises awareness about the progress against cancer while also raising funds to fight the disease,” Peet said.
